Mermaid gowns, which I love, are a bit more form fitting through the hips. A mermaid style is fitted across the chest, stomach, hips, and often thighs. It may flare out above, at, or below the knees.
A trumpet is similar, but it creates volume that will flow, somewhat like a train, behind the bride.
Considering this, and the fact that I was able to take normal steps when I walked, I believe my dress was a trumpet style.
